Mgroup selected to expand historic MARIENKIRCHE campus

June 23, 2010

Stehling Klein-Thomas Architects, located in Fredericksburg, Texas has chosen Mgroup Design from a
short list of three Texas interior design firms to assist in the expansion of the historic campus of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Known as 'Marienkirche' due to its German heritage, the historic site has been cited as the #2 building in the The Ten Best Buildings in Texas as identified by Texas Monthly magazine.

Freed from Mexico, through its booming cotton economy, Texas  financed a taste for the Greek Revival architectural style popular in the antebellum South.

The Marienkirche was ahead of a trend, as Gothic Revival churches sprouted in towns and cities all across nineteenth-century Texas.

Humble yet aspirational, practical but refined, the modest Marienkirche still stands as a model for an enlightened twenty-first-century Texas architecture.

Mgroup Design has been selected to assist in the design of the new St. Mary's Parish Center which will serve as a multi-purpose facility offering a complete kitchen, dining area and various meeting rooms.

The desired design will be one that can house the modern facility yet fit seamlessly with the historic architecture prerserved on the campus.

“We are extremely honored to be included in this type of project." states Misty Wiebold, Principal of Mgroup Design. "This project underscores our aspirations to create well thought out spaces that meet the needs of a growing community while preserving its incredible, historical legacy.”

Preliminary design has already begun and construction of the project is scheduled to begin in the Fall of 2010.
Mgroup Sponsors Successful Inaugural
CLICKS Photography Exhibition

September 2010

Mgroup Design sponsored and hosted the inaugural CLICKS photography exhibition from August 20th-22nd.  The exhibition was held in Mgroup Studio located in McKinney's historic Cotton Mill. The exhibition consisted of 45 entries from professional and hobbyist photographers from the DFW area.

"It was an honor to host this show and allow these artists who have never had the chance to finally share their creativity and gifting with the public," cited Misty Wiebold, owner of Mgroup Design. "We look forward to hosting these types of exhibitions on a consistent basis."

The exhibition culminated with an Awards Reception with Best of Show being awarded to 23-year-old Sarah Calk of McKinney, Texas.  Her print entitled "What It Is To Feel" not only received the grand prize award but also received The People's Choice Award as voted by the
viewing public.

Ms. Calk, who works for a local McKinney Starbucks as a barista, is a self-taught photographer who is extremely passionate about horses and capturing their strength
and beauty through her camera lens.

"This piece (What It Is To Feel) has all the beauty and mystery that inspires and enamors us about the natural world. Calk's seductive use of light and attention to detail is what makes this image not a good but a gorgeous photograph," stated Twyla Bloxham, The Arts Institute of Dallas professor who served as the juror for the CLICKS photography exhibition.

Other artists receiving awards were:

Representational Category:
Keith Blandford of McKinney - 1st Place
Steven Hacker of Fairview - 2nd Place

Landmarks Category:
Todd Landry of Dallas - 1st Place
Gary Dean of McKinney - 2nd Place
David Forehand of Plano - 3rd Place

Interpretive Category:
Aimee Wilson of Plano - 1st Place
Ryan Tadeo of Frisco - 2nd Place

Terry Casey, owner and developer of the Cotton Mill, awarded all participating photographers with time to return to the Cotton Mill property for a future photography session.

CLICKS opened Friday, Aug. 20 and ran through Sunday, Aug. 22. According to exhibition management, the show was very well attended due to publicity extended by K.E.R.A. television, online media and word of mouth by those participating in the show.

"All in all, this being the first CLICKS exhibition, I would definitely rate it a success," commented Misty Wiebold.  "We want to continue to host CLICKS in an attempt to build community interest in the art of photography and provide the opportunity for artist's to share their work."
